The benefits of engineered timber
From its undeniable beauty to its eco-conscious footprint, the benefits of engineered timber flooring cannot be overstated. It proves you really can have it all – strength, style, and sustainability, all in one smart choice.
Less Gaps & Warping
Over time, solid timber will contract and expand with seasonal changes in temperature and humidity, which can lead to gaps and warping. Due to it's construction, engineered timber is less susceptible to these environmental changes, ensuring the look you get on day one will be the same for years to come.
Engineered for Consistency
As engineered timber uses a thinner layer of wood compared to solid timber, we're able to get more floorboards from one tree. As a result, there's greater consistency between each plank and less variation in the features.
The Sustainable Choice
As engineered timber only uses a thin layer of timber, it means we're using significantly less trees for each home. Engineered timber also has less wastage as we're able to use more of the tree, rather than just select portions.
Unlike traditional solid timber flooring, engineered timber flooring is made up of multiple layers of wood. The top layer is natural hardwood, while the layers underneath are made up of plywood.
The construction improves stability and helps it resist changes in humidity and temperature, making it more durable and longer-lasting than traditional hardwood.
Engineered wood flooring offers the same aesthetic and durability as hardwood, but with an even greater resistance to moisture and temperature fluctuations. It’s also considered far more sustainable due to its efficient use of hardwood.
Yes, it is! Engineered timber is harvested from fast-growing timber plantations, which reduces the waste of using only solid, slow-growing European oak.
All of our engineered timber comes from sustainable forest management suppliers and is PEFC® (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) or FSC® (the Forest Stewardship Council) certified.
In many cases, yes. Our flooring options can be installed over a range of subfloors, including concrete and existing wood. Chat with our team to find out if your subfloor is suitable for our engineered timber flooring products.
With proper care and maintenance, engineered timber flooring can last for decades. The lifespan might vary depending on the thickness of the top hardwood layer, the quality of installation, and the level of foot traffic you have in the space.
Generally yes, but it depends on the width of your top hardwood layer. You should be able to sand and refinish multiple times though, which extends their lifespan and freshens up your space.
Maintenance is pretty straightforward. You’ll just need to sweep or dry mop regularly, vacuum to remove dirt and debris when needed, and occasionally damp mop using an engineered timber cleanser (we recommend Loba products).
