So, you’ve been given the job of holiday host this year—congrats!
As you prepare for a house full of guests, festive feasts, and endless foot traffic, don’t forget about one key player: your timber floors. Between the furniture shuffling, accidental spills, and non-stop action, your floors can take quite the beating.
But don’t stress! With a few easy steps, you can keep them looking as flawless as ever, even after the last guest leaves.
Lay down stylish rugs or runners in high-traffic areas like entryways, hallways, and living rooms. Not only will this prevent scratches, but it’ll also add a cozy, festive touch to your décor.
Place felt pads under furniture
Make sure every chair, table, or couch has felt pads under its legs. This prevents scratches when things get moved around—so you can shift your space without worrying about damaging your beautiful timber floors.
Be prepared for spills
With festive drinks and food flowing, spills are bound to happen.
To keep your timber floors safe, make sure you’re prepared for quick clean-ups. Have a soft, damp cloth on hand to wipe up any spills immediately—this prevents moisture from seeping into the wood and causing damage. A little holiday cheer is great, but your floors don’t need to soak it in!
If the weather allows, take the party outdoors to give your timber floors a break. Set up an outdoor entertaining area with comfortable seating, festive lighting, and drinks on the deck or in the garden.
Set up a shoe-free zone
Encourage guests to leave their shoes at the door. This simple step can prevent dirt, debris, and scuff marks from damaging your timber floors. You can even make it festive by offering a cozy spot with a few fun, holiday-themed slippers—your floors stay protected, and your guests feel right at home.
